Dorothy M. Frieden, 88, of Fayette, formerly of West Union, died Thursday, April 09, 2015, at Maple Crest Manor Care Center in Fayette.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Union with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 12th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at a later date at Richfield Cemetery, rural Sumner. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Dorothy Maxine, daughter of Clifford and Mabel (Love) Gray, was born August 12, 1926, in Snohomish, Washington. She was baptized in Snohomish, and received her education in the Snohomish Schools. She would later go on to receive her GED. Dorothy was united in marriage with Wayne Shafer, in June of 1946. They later divorced. In November of 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage with Raymond Weidemann. The couple made their home in Alpha, Iowa. She was confirmed on June 2, 1977, at St. Peter Lutheran Church-Richfield, rural Sumner. Raymond died in 1985. Dorothy and Fleet Frieden were married at St. John Stapleton, on August 16, 1986. Dorothy worked for over thirty years between Palmer Lutheran Hospital and the Good Samaritan Nursing Center as a nurse’s aide, before retiring in 1988. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Union and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Katherine (Dale) Ott of Alpha, and Jacquelyn (Paul) Woodard of West Union; four grandchildren, David Ott, Kristine Kriener, Elizabeth (Shon Grimm) Ott, and Valerie Heins; eight great-grandhildren, Chelsea Kriener, Alison (Eric) Glover, Brendan (Kayla) Erickson, Bryanna (Jason) Grimes, Belinda Erickson and her companion, Patrick, Alicia Schlichte and her companion, Jeremy, Erin Heins, and Morgan Heins; two great-great-grandchildren, Connor Erickson, and Blaire Grimes.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, and one brother, George Gray.
